The book is really sad but good at the same time. It's really hard to put it down once you start reading it. Really recommend it. :)
Aman and his mother try to escape from the taliban. Problems are always getting in their way. A dog named Shadow soon becomes a great friend to Aman. Aman and his mother make it out of Afghanistan and are living England with their uncle. They were asylum seekers for six years but then they were brought to a prison like place while waiting to be deported. Thankfully they were saved by a friend and his grandad. Show more Show less
This was a really good book, it always kept me interested to see what happened next.
The pictures in the book are like sketches and they are really good as I love drawing and sketching.
Shadow

Michael Morpurgo

Shadow is a young adult novel by Michael Morpurgo in which a boy called Matt and his Grandpa seek to have Afghan asylum seekers, Aman Khan and his mother, freed from the British detention facility at Yarl's Wood.

Morpurgo tells us this story of courage, love and hope through the eyes of three main characters, -Aman, Matt and Grandpa. The plot relies on Aman's account of escaping Afghanistan with a stray dog that he named Shadow. The story is set in Bamiyan where a lot of significant moments take place.

Bamiyan is a valley in Afghanistan where Aman, his Mother, their family, and the Hazara people make their homes. Bamiyan is a beautiful and peaceful place until the Russians, and later the Taliban, take control of the country.

I really enjoyed this book because it is based on a true story that signifies the courage and freedom that kids like Aman must face and have in their real lives. I also love the message/theme that the author expresses in this novel- ‘Friendship is important in difficult times.

My favorite character in the novel was Aman because he was so brave and patient to let his dream fulfill its goal.

If I could change or write one thing in the novel, it would be to include the side of the story from Aman’s mother’s point of view because it would reveal the secrets that were kept when she went to prison.

Overall, I think this book is inspirational and teaches every individual to be brave and to never give up on our dreams.

I would rate this book 4.5 stars.

This is about a boy called Aman who used to live in Afghanistan. He moves to Manchester because of the Taliban but seven years later he and his mum find themselves in an immigration Centre while their future is decided. Here he tells you the story about his life in Afghanistan and how he found Shadow, a military sniffer dog who becomes his best friend.
if you love dogs this is a great story, and you learn a lot about life in another country under the invasion of the Taliban. I loved this book and in particular the ending....I won't ruin it for you. Enjoy the read.
